Challenge #capocovid19 No2: Pomodoro Banana Split
If you’re used to going to the office everyday, and now all of a sudden you’re thrust into working from home, I’m sure it can be a bit of a shock to the system.
But don’t worry, working from home is great! I’ve not been to an office in over a decade, and I can tell you I never plan on going back.
Lapinha’s Top Tips for Remote Working
Before I get to the Capoeira related tip, some general advice from a seasoned pyjama wearing worker:
- Create a dedicated work space
Don’t work from the sofa, or from the bed. You need to clearly separate the boundaries between work and leisure. You don’t need a dedicated office, but at least a small desk area, improvised if necessary. - Use a To-do List App
I personally love todoist. It’s easy to use, synchronises nicely across all devices and works with Google Assistant if you’re an uber geek like me… Get the most out of is using the Getting Things Done method. - Use the Pomodoro Technique
The Pomodoro Technique involves structuring your day into blocks of 25 minutes focused work, followed by a five minute break. Every fourth pomodoro, you take a longer 15-30 minute break. I use this free preset Windows app – Focus10.
The Pomodoro Banana Split
So, what’s this got to do with Capoeira and the #capocovid19 challenge?
I’d strongly recommend the basic Pomodoro Technique even if you’re in a normal office – the regular breaks help maintain focus throughout the day, and help ensure that you move around regularly, definitely a good thing.
An advantage of being at home however, is that you can do whatever you want during the five minute break, without getting funny looks from your colleagues or told off by your boss!
Introducing Lapinha’s Pomodoro Banana Split:
In every 5 minute break:
> Do a bananeira – Freestanding or against a wall for up to 1 minute
> Do a ponte (bridge) – Hold as long as you can, or reps during 1 minute
> Stretch – Choose a stretch you want to develop. Hold for 1-2 minutes
Challenge 2 #capocovid19
The key to improving both balance and flexibility is consistency. Five minutes may not seem like much, but they quickly add up to a lot.
Applying this technique really helped both my bananeira and my flexibility improve a lot. Give it a go!
